There was a time in the not-too-distant future when PACS were only available in major hospitals.  This was because maintenance on PACS was often too expensive for smaller facilities to purchase and maintain.  But, more recently hardware costs have come down and it is now feasible for many more facilities to purchase PACS, and it has almost become a commodity.  M.I.T. is very excited to be able to support PACS, and formed the M.I.T. Information Technology Division to specifically address the dynamic environment of the PACS arena.
